Been awhile since I've posted here, need to get back into the swing of things. The water temp has been ranging anywhere from 43-47 degrees with stained clarity. All my fish have been coming on crankbaits in a custom color and carolina rig. Alot of bigger fish have been picking up the weight, which tells me two things. They want a smaller profile and they want it on the bottom. Remember, the more stained the water, the shorter the leader on my carolina rig. As the water temps begin to warm the fish will begin to feed "up" more. Keep in mind the sun can get the fish really active in the milfoil. The fish are relating heavily to the first breaks, either on or just above the breaklines from 10-5ft. The fish really haven't started moving into the flats yet, as the water begins to warm more fish will move up. Keep in mind the bigger fish usually spawn first and will use ditches and creek channels as travel routes to move into the areas. Some of the key elemants I look for in a spawning area is the ditches or creek channels running into a stump filled flat. The stumps provide a firmer bottom for spawning, as do the old lilly pads roots. Good fishing and tightlines! For a guide trip or lake info call 256-298-1088 Ron Alexander. I am also going to start a "techniques" and "how to" videos shortly. Want to know more advanced sonar and tournament pre-fishing techniques on finding fish, drop me a line.
